Applications of random matrix theory to analytic number theory

چکیده

This research proposal concerns several projects at the interface of analytic number theory and random matrix theory. As such the proposal involves ideas from number theory, combinatorics, and analysis. The proposal is divided into two sections, related by the perhaps surprising use they make of combinatorial representation theory, but also by the following theme: both sections will study a special family of weakly dependent random variables, usually with an arithmetic origin, and have as a goal to say how their behavior resembles and differs from a collection of entirely independent random variables. The first section pertains to the arithmetic meaning of the appearance of random matrix statistics among the zeros of L-functions. The second has its start in questions concerning certain trigonometric polynomials and pertains to noncommutative and compact variants of the classical central limit theorems of Salem and Zygmund.

APPLICATION OF THE RANDOM MATRIX THEORY ON THE CROSS-CORRELATION OF STOCK ‎PRICES

The analysis of cross-correlations is extensively applied for understanding of interconnections in stock markets. Variety of methods are used in order to search stock cross-correlations including the Random Matrix Theory (RMT), the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and the Hierachical ‎Structures.‎ In ‎this work‎, we analyze cross-crrelations between price fluctuations of 20 ‎company ‎stocks‎...

A Block-Wise random sampling approach: Compressed sensing problem

The focus of this paper is to consider the compressed sensing problem. It is stated that the compressed sensing theory, under certain conditions, helps relax the Nyquist sampling theory and takes smaller samples. One of the important tasks in this theory is to carefully design measurement matrix (sampling operator). Most existing methods in the literature attempt to optimize a randomly initiali...

Structured Random Matrices

Random matrix theory is a well-developed area of probability theory that has numerous connections with other areas of mathematics and its applications. Much of the literature in this area is concerned with matrices that possess many exact or approximate symmetries, such as matrices with i.i.d. entries, for which precise analytic results and limit theorems are available. Much less well understoo...

Averages of ratios of characteristic polynomials for the compact classical groups

Averages of ratios of characteristic polynomials for the compact classical groups are evaluated in terms of determinants whose dimensions are independent of the matrix rank. These formulas are shown to be equivalent to expressions for the same averages obtained in a previous study, which was motivated by applications to analytic number theory. Our approach uses classical methods of random matri...
